Building on Faith is Habitat’s annual week long celebration of its strong and continuing Christian heritage. This year’s Building on Faith will take place from September 27th – October 4th.
Hope for Charlotte has committed to organizing a group to build October 2nd-4th (Thurs.- Sat.). We are trying to commit 15-20 people to volunteer each of those three days. Our part specifically will be to partner with the Critical Home Repair Program (formerly called the Isaiah 58 project). The CHR program assists families whose homes have become a danger to live in and are unable to have them repaired. The new homes to be built will be in Wingate, Lincoln Heights and Reid Park, located off of West Boulevard, between downtown and the airport. This will be the 25th anniversary celebration of Building on Faith. The goal is to serve 25 families by building 20 houses and completing 5 repair projects here in Charlotte. This project is Habitat’s signature Blitz Build Project, celebrating their special connection to Charlotte’s faith community. Each fall since 1995, faith groups of different denominations partner with Habitat by spending 1 week constructing between 10 and 20 homes for local, low-income families.
Building on Faith is a world wide project where a vast array of churches and faith groups have provided labor and finances to put their faith into action by building simple, decent, affordable housing with families in need. Church members in more than 200 locations around the country have picked up hammers to build more than 300 new homes, created better communities and have deepen friendships.
Habitat’s founder and president, Millard Fuller said, “we began Habitat for Humanity 32 years ago because we believed that the life and teaching of Jesus demand our faith be seen, not just heard. Building on Faith gives our Habitat for Humanity family a chance to formally recognize the commitment that drives us every day.”
